Tens of thousands of pounds is to be invested in young entrepreneurial talent thanks to a new cash award from a national enterprise scheme.

Long-running youth enterprise scheme Shell LiveWIRE has announced it will invest up to £70,000 in a new awards programme.

Every month, up to five aspiring entrepreneurs between 16 and 30 will win a Shell LiveWIRE Grand Ideas award, which will grant a no-strings-attached financial boost of £1,000 to the originators of the best business ideas.

In addition, young entrepreneurs are invited to compete in the Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year award, which will see one winner walk away with £10,000.

James Smith, chairman of Shell UK, said: "Given the current economic climate, it is more important than ever to unearth and support the young entrepreneurs of today. To help and encourage young entrepreneurs, Shell Livewire has been modernised with web tools, telephone help and financial prizes."

The independent enterprise scheme also offers free resources to help start-up businesses, including access to a global peer network for the sharing of ideas and offers of guidance in market research, business plans and legal information.
